Analysing Mdu Probe Evidence – Grouping of Evidence

Mdu Probe evidence Reason for analysis Recommended Action
VCR Red VCR Red indicates timber is rotten and structurally affected. This may cause bracing and support issues. Often using timber strength measurements to correlate assists determining residual strength if any B2 issues. Replacement of affected timber. Check if repairs have been attempted in the past. Check if moisture is present but due to decayed timber not reading on equipment.
MC Red MC Red are MC above 26\% and at a level where fungi can germinate and grow (if not already growing). At these MC levels decay fungi growth rates can be extensive. E2 and B2 issues Prepare list of potential contributory factors of leak sources and prepare list of repairs required to fix defects. Consider timber treatment if walls will not dry or where decay cannot be managed.
VCR and MC Orange Where both VCR and MC are orange this means fungal growth is likely to have initiated and the MC is sufficient for ongoing growth. What is noteworthy of consideration is when the MC have been taken as if these have been taken in summer they will likely be wetter in winter. E2 and B2 issues Review of affected timber for condition. Prepare list of potential contributory factors of leak sources and prepare list of repairs required to fix defects. Consider timber treatment if walls will not dry or where decay cannot be managed.
VCR level 2 orange Upper levels of homes are drier. Therefore less accumulations occur that may cause decay. Therefore when decay has been identified on upper floors moisture must be present – but harder to find without more frequent readings. B2 issues likely E2 issues present or past. Review of affected timber for condition. Prepare list of potential contributory factors of leak sources and prepare list of repairs required to fix defects. Consider timber treatment if walls will not dry or where decay cannot be managed
MC variance > 4\% Where moisture contents vary by more than 4\% from the controls this indicates that moisture is accumulating. Therefore decay is likely. E2 issues leading to possible B2 issues Review of affected timber for condition. Prepare list of potential contributory factors of leak sources and prepare list of repairs required to fix defects. Consider timber treatment if walls will not dry or where decay cannot be managed.
Blue spaces in table Often means timber is unable to be found and therefore using other forms of evidence are used. Unknown but likely B2 issues. See other results for E2 issues. Further evidence required or place more weight on existing evidence
